I had to take urgent leave again today, coz of family stuff so I apologize for not being there to hand out your report books. I had some big grand speech planned for our session later but since that is not going to happen, I'll just say here lah.

OK, it's not a big, grand, speech, more like my usual rambling/nagging nonsense stuff.

But the thing is, you've all done very well this year, and I'm very proud of each and every one of you, and you should all be very proud of yourselves and your classmates. I think this year has been the coming of age for Cleon, we've had a lot of personal achievements, as well as class achievements and it's nice to see the class finish off on a such a high note.

So these are our last few days together as a class, so do cherish them, but they're not our last few days as friends.

In case you don't have the time to read my extended email titled "脱苦海？还是德明人，切记！(Dunmanian? Act and be like one)" on 23 Oct, this is a reminder:

- Next Monday 26 Oct 2009, we will do a spotcheck for all Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 after flag raising.

- Those who do not pass the spotcheck will be asked to stay back, e.g. for the boys, if your hair is long, you will be escorted to the barber shop at Kampong Arang to get it cut, if you are tardy in your appearance and hair not clipped properly, not wearing proper footwear and over-decorated with accessories, you will need to do something about it.

- Your scripts will be kept and you will only be allowed to check your scripts after that.

Anyways when you come back on Monday (flagraising @ 9AM and tie, pls), you'll be getting your exam scripts back. Here are the details:

Return of Exam Scripts 26-27th Oct 2009 (<-- my birthday, ahem ahem)

Year 1 to 3 students to take note:

There will be no lessons on 26th and 27th Oct (Mon, Tues).
You will be getting back your answer scripts on these 2 days.

On Mon, you are to report to school for flag-raising by 0900, after which you will go straight to the respective venues to collect your exam scripts. On Tues, you are to report by 0800.

Year One – Auditorium
Year Two – Hall
Year Three – PAC

The only stationery you are allowed to bring along is a green pen (no blue/black/red ink pens and no pencils), otherwise you will be deemed as contemplating to change your answers.

You may also want to bring along your calculator.

No bags are allowed in the venues; please leave them in your classrooms. Bring all valuables with you.

You will be dismissed for break directly from the venue and you are expected to be back after 30 minutes so please bring along your wallets.

Dismissal time for Year Ones and Twos will be according to the usual timetable.

Dear Year 2s

Today I attended a talk conducted for our Y6s on the topics of Time Management, Stress Management and Motivation, in view of the upcoming 'A' Level Examination.

I enjoyed the session and would like to share some useful pointers I picked up to cope with EXAMS .

Brrrs(an acronym for the following pointers, sounds like something you say when you feel cold)

i) B- Breathe
When you are just about to start your paper, take a few deep breaths. Of course, continue breathing. Breathing helps to direct oxygen to your brain. It helps you to feel calmer and your ability to solve problems is enhanced.

ii) R -Read
Read the questions in your exam paper very carefully. Take note of the question requirements.

iii) R- Remember
Remember and recall the information you need to help you answer the questions.

iv) R- Relax
Maybe this might sound a little difficult in view of the many questions you have to cover within the time frame. Deep breathing will help. Read on to see how you can help yourself relax.

v) S- Smile
Smiling releases endorphins and makes us feel better. Even faking a smile can lead to feeling happier. People are born with the ability to smile. You might be thinking "what if the invigilators see you smiling by yourself". It's all right. Smile and finish up your paper happily!

Revision Tips

If you have difficulty remembering your facts, try this:

* Revise what you have learnt after 10mins. According to research, your memory is most productive in the first 10mins, after which it will decline.
* However, if you can revise very quickly what you have just studied after 10mins, you tend to remember better.
* Even better still, revisit the information after a day (even if you spend a short time) and you will find yourself retaining the information even better.
* One hour study blocks are ideal as you tend to retain information the best at the start and end of the one hour block.
* Go for short breaks after your one hour study blocks.

Finally, I would like to wish you the very best for your exams. Brrrs....keeping smiling. You can do it!. Thoughts often become reality. So stay positive and let's finish strong for this year!

Mid Autumn Festival celebration will be held on 18 September and a treasure hunt in school has been organised for all of you during the celebration!
Besides getting to enjoy the hunt and play games, prizes and class league points will also be won for the winning teams!

oh yah, i just wanted to let you all know that it's ok if you hv to stay away from sch, we hv home-based learning systems in place, ready to go so that you won't be missing out much. i'm saying this coz i don't want anybody to worry about missing lesson, esp since it's your streaming year and all, and fake the info on your travel declaration forms only to put all of us at risk of being quarantined too. mdm rozana got baby ok? lol.

and it's just the flu. it's not like SARS. SARS was BAD. this is a new strain of flu, and even the normal seasonal flu has killed people before. H1N1 has caused deaths, but in most cases the victims had existing medical conditions already. Although yes, your age group is actually the most vulnerable to H1N1.

So what can you do about it? First and foremost please practice good hygiene. Don't leave snotty pieces of tissue paper around the tables. Wash your hands regularly. Don't talk so much (LOL). Eat your fruits and load up on Vit C. Drink plenty of water. Stay active and make sure you get your sleep at night. Stay healthy so that your body can fight off infections.

If you feel sick, then just stay home. Don't try to martyr yourself, because you will be inconveniencing a lot of people. You'd be send home anyway.

Ok, enjoy the rest of the hols :)

A lot of things to say, so please stay tuned for updates. But stuff that I can remember:

- School starts at 8 am on Monday 29/6. AYG celebrations have been cancelled for JH students.

- No flagraising, report straight to class. Please leave your bags outside first.

- Monday still must wear tie hor.

- Download and print out the travel declaration form that was emailed to you. Fill it up and get your parents to sign. No printer: beg, borrow, steal. Or ask mummy/daddy to print for you at work. Can? BRING ON MONDAY. No form, cannot sit in class.

- New timetable will be emailed to you on Sat, first person please help to screen-cap and upload on class blog?

- Make sure you bring your ODTs, and that they are working. I have extra batteries if you need.

- Continue checking your DHS mail for any important updates regarding H1N1 matters.

anyways, i feel like a hanzhang coz i read 3 books these past 2 days and I finished the HP chronicles and i think i shall start on narnia again. my friends gave me a beautiful volume of chronicles of narnia for my 23rd birthday, if it wasn't so big and bulky i would read it more often but it is the size of an ENCYCLOPEDIA (if y'all know what that looks like...want to say 'dictionary' also cnot since everything also electronic these days..)

Racial Harmony Day celebration

Dear year 1-4s,

With the upcoming Racial Harmony Day, all classes are required to prepare a dance, song, skit or any other performance for the celebration. The theme this year is "Neighbours". So students have to come up with an item (about 5-7 minutes) revolving this year's theme. There would be 72 ethnic costumes available which could be loaned to you for your performance if chosen by the teachers.

DAILY TEMPERATURE-TAKING FROM MONDAY 4 MAY 2009

Dear Dunmanians,

You may have read in the papers that our MOH has raised the H1N1 Flu situation to Orange Alert level. Hence all schools will implement daily temperature taking from Monday, 4 May 2009. This is NOT an Exercise but a necessary measure to help prevent the spread of diseases amongst students and staff. We need all students to take this measure seriously.

With effect from Monday 4 May 2009, the school will implement the following:

a) Daily temperature taking. We would like all Dunmanians to be responsible at remembring to bring their thermometers whenever they come to school and be considerate at not delaying the temperature taking process. Never bring thermometer is equivalent to a misdemeanour in conduct. In addition, students who never bring thermometer may also miss lessons.

b) Students who are unwell will be asked to go home to see a doctor and get medical leave. Please return to school (with medical leave certificate) only after full recovery.

c) Temperature measurement and recording of information of all school visitors. We would like to ask all parents/guardians who are sending or fetching their children to/from school to remain in their vehicles. Those who wish to leave their vehicles and move around the school compound would have their temperature taken and necessary information recorded.

d) Kampong Arang vehicular access gates will be closed. Only the pedestrian gate will be opened during morning peak hours. Both Tanjong Rhu vehicular gates will be opened during peak hours. Outside peak hours, only the enetrance gate wil be opened. Please ask your parents to drive with care.

We know that the above measures can bring some inconveniences to you or your parents but hope that you and your parents will bear with them knowing they are essential to ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for you.

Temp taking exercise

Well if you've read the news lately you'd know there is a swine flu outbreak in Mexico, and in some other parts of the world. It's a flu virus with avian, swine and human flu genes. We're playing it safe here, so there will be an MOE-directed temperature taking exercise on Weds morning. You know the drill, bring your thermometers or risk being sent to hall and given tut-tuts and misdemeanour forms. contrary to the last exercise there is less lead time so SPREAD THE WORD (just the word, not the flu bug...)..
